There are so many people in the public sectors screaming about money. We need more for the schools. We need more for the jail. Screaming to have a bigger piece of a finite pie. Of course this would be the gut reaction for most people. Happily not all. (I loved Mark Campbell's quote which basically said he's do his best with what he was given)
But the real question should be "Why are we here and what can we do to fix it?"
The history of West Calaveras now has a home on the Internet. The Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History (SPWCH) has launched westcalaverashistory.org as the group’s Website and the premier source on the Internet for historical information specifically about the area, which includes Valley Springs, Burson, Wallace and more.
Well I feel really strange tooting my own horn here but Liz and Phil Weaver voted Valley Springs Citizens of the Year. Read about it on the Pine Tree Quite a surprise and quite an honor. Liz and I felt very special being among the other nominees as we have a great deal of respect for each of them.

VOLUME TWO OF “SOMETHING FROM NOTHING” MAGAZINE FEATURING WEST CALAVERAS HISTORY NOW AVAILABLE
Did you know that the 1960s “Big Valley” TV series was inspired by a woman rancher in West Calaveras? Or that both the first and the most famous olive orchards in the entire region were in Wallace? How about Capt. Messenger during the Civil War or Catts Camp or the San Joaquin & Sierra Nevada Railroad or the area’s connections with Charles Darwin and Old Ironsides?
Please review the communications I've received via Wallace member Chuck Cantoni. This is in regards to tomorrow's (Tuesday) funeral procession through Wallace for Kyle Coumas, Army Spc. from Lockford killed Oct. 21 in Afghanistan. To show respect we would like to have folks display the flags as the procession passes; the Wallace Lakes Estates folks have 10; if you can join in and we can display the WBA flags currently in storage, please let me know by phone 763-5305 or by email. We would need to be at the Wallace PO by 10am.

After Da' Shifu Al Moore's passing it became incredibly difficult to find a Shou' Shu' school. As the pressures within the system to "modernize" became stronger a large number of the quality instructors went on their way.
