How About We Call It Walden?
I was really moved by a quote in the Valley Springs News by Diane Gray. In response to a question asking whether she thought the move to hold the CoC golf tournament at Trinitas, she was quoted as saying, "Our job is to represent the business community, not the county, and our business members appreciate us supporting Trinitas".
The quote has stuck in my head for days and I would argue that it is a bigger statement than many might think. I would argue that this was an act of patriotism. Hurray to Diane Gray and the CoC.
I've seen one nasty reaction to this statement and read the first few lines of write in editorials just as nasty. They all cite the illegality of it.
Now I really don't know if there is anything illegal going on or not. To tell the truth I don't believe I have enough information to determine that. Nor is it my job.
But if it is illegal, even more Hurrahs!!!
You see, we have come to a time where "It's illegal" is sometimes nothing more than a meme. The statement tries to equate legality with righteousness. Which is less an less true. But the meme will try to shut down arguments anyway. Because that's what meme's do. They claim truth and ask you not to think.
Laws and righteousness often have nothing to do with one another. For example, if it becomes "illegal" to not purchase your own health insurance does that make it "morally and ethically not right"? I think there may be some confusion here in respect to the definitions of legality, morality, ethics, and truth. They are not synonymous.
Now don't take this as a pro Trinitas post. Like I said I really don't have enough information to know who was right and who did wrong. The "facts" I've read certainly conflict, so at least some of those "facts" must be wrong.
But, then again, does deciding who was right and who was wrong equate to having the best outcome?
(Personally I think Trinitas should be approved with the stipulation that they get the #@!^$#$ fined out of them. Why not give all that money that will be wasted on attorneys to the county in the form of fines. But that is only opinion and based on "facts" which may or may not be true)
It is merely a statement that when government disobeys the will of the people then the only patriotic thing the people can do is disobey the government.
So if your one of those outdoor enthusiasts who like to go out hunting gophers at Trinitas with little white balls and clubs, I ask that, whether your intent is just to shirk the law for the fun of it, or you actually have patriotic intent, that when you pass this pond you look and say "Walden is sure looking lovely today" and have a good game.
