Deputy Fires Gunshot

An unnamed Calaveras County Sheriff's deputy sustained minor ear injuries after firing a shot within his patrol vehicle. The deputy was responding to a disturbance call on Pelican Place in Valley Springs on Sunday. When the deputy arrived, a 26 year old man, Michael Garner Ward, pointed a shotgun at the patrol vehicle. The deputy fired his weapon at Ward, but did not hit him. The gunman was disarmed by a witness and taken into custody.
