Pot grower gets five years in jail
Edward Pereira was convicted today on gun and drug charges and was sentenced to five years and eight months in the Calaveras County jail. The 38 year old Valley Springs man plead guilty in April to charges of marijuana possession packaged for sale, cultivation of marijuana, illegal possession of an assault rifle and two counts of receiving stolen property. Pereira's plea deal was part of a package, such that his wife, Alicia, and son, Andrew, would only plead guilty to misdemeanor possession, rather than face full charges of criminal conspiracy and cultivation and possession of marijuana.
