Hello, My name is Denise and I am a life long resident of Calaveras County, San Andreas to be more specific. I have a 12 year old son who is a student of Sheng Chi Kung Fu. It is so amazing to me to watch his personal growth and strength with every class. I would also like to tell anyone who is reading this about the change in a sweet young girl who rides with us to Sheng Chi. First let me say she would not be going to class at all if there were not business sponsors who donate $ to the Sheng Chi Foundation. The foundation is great. It helps underprivileged children, special needs children and high risk children have a place to belong, grow, gain confidence, learn respect and self defense. Let me get back to the sweet girl. She would ride next to me in the car not saying a word. If I asked her a question she would look down at the floor and give a simple yes or no answer. About a month or two later she actually asked me a question, I was blown away that she would initiate a conversation. Not long after that we were talking the whole way to class. Now don’t think she just warmed up to me, I have known her for 7 years. It is so wonderful to watch her walk with her head held high, not afraid to take the first step instead of following. She even was on local TV with a few of the other kids from Sheng Chi to give a little demonstration of Kung Fu. I honestly believe the self confidence is directly linked to her Martial Arts study. The only way she could go to class was with the help of a business sponsor through the Sheng Chi Foundation. Had there not been this foundation nor a kind soul willing to help a child in need, this sweet girl would not have the skills to defend her self nor would she have the confidence to speak up and stand up for herself. I encourage local business if at all possible to help a child within this community become a stronger, self confident and respectful member of Calaveras County by donating to the Sheng Chi Foundation.
