2005 General Statistics
Hotline call reports (referrals) received:
We received a total of 813 reports of child abuse, involving a total of 847 children.
• 339 of the referrals were evaluated out.
• 474 of the referrals were investigated.
• 126 were responded to within 2 hours.
• The rest were usually investigated within 10 days.
The 813 reports alleged the following types of child abuse:
• Neglect = 463
• Physical abuse = 171
• Sexual abuse/Exploitation = 133
• Emotional abuse = 89
• “At risk” due to abuse of a sibling = 81
• Caretaker Absence/Abandonment = 60
NOTE: The total number of allegations exceeds the total number of referrals, because many referrals included multiple allegations.
The 813 referrals involved families living in the following areas:
• Altaville/Angels Camp = 98
• Arnold/Avery = 56
• Burson/Wallace = 18
• Camp Connell/Dorrington = 12
• Copperopolis = 59
• Douglas Flat/Vallecito = 11
• Glencoe/Mokelumne Hill = 25
• Mountain/Sheep Ranch = 32
• Murphys/ Hathaway Pines = 28
• Railroad Flat = 16
• San Andreas = 138
• Valley Springs/Jenny Lind = 182
• West Point/Wilseyville = 62
• “Unknown” = 10
• Out of County = 66
The 847 children who were alleged to have been victims of abuse fell within the following demographics:
• Ethnicity:
• Black = 9
• Cambodian = 1
• Caucasian = 637
• Hispanic = 42
• Native American = 13
• Vietnamese = 3
• Unknown = 143
• Gender:
• Female = 416
• Male = 427
• Unknown = 4
• Age Groups:
• 0-5 years = 241
• 6-9 years = 191
• 10-13 years = 169
• 14-17 years = 223
• 18 + years = 23
Of the 474 referrals that were investigated, we opened active cases on a total of 48 families.
CASES open during 2005 (number of children receiving CPS services):
There were 143 open cases at some point during the year 2005, as follows:
• Ethnicity:
• Black = 4
• Caucasian = 117
• Hispanic = 15
• Native American = 7
• Gender:
• Female = 75
• Male = 68
• Ages:
• 0-5 years = 29
• 6-9 years = 32
• 10-13 years = 26
• 14-17 years = 42
• 18-19 years = 14
Of the 143 open cases, 114 children have been in an out-of-home placement for at least 5 days during the year 2005, in the following placement categories:
• Foster Care = 103
• Relative Home = 37
• Legal Guardianship (non-relative) = 18
• Group Home = 13
NOTE: The total exceeds 114, because some children were placed in more than one type of home.
26 children received on-going CPS services in the home of at least one parent in our Family Maintenance Program.
