Elections
Folks will be voting in just a few weeks for District 5 Supervisor as well as other local and state issues. I hope everyone can have a mature debate on issues and those who seek to represent us. But I doubt it.
I support Victoria Erickson for re election and I think it is very important for Valley Springs and Rancho Calaveras that we have a local resident as Supervisor.
Victoria has worked very hard and accomplished many good things for our County. The first Road Impact fees to fix our roads like the entrance to Jenny Lind School. She has work very well for our deputies and will continue to fund a larger jail facility. She has led the way for the County's new General Plan. Our County planning Department has been reoriginized. She understands we want better Retail shopping opportunities. She is heading the first ever task force on Parks and Recreation and wants to finally put our kids first.
Victoria has received the endorsments of our California State Senator Dave Cox, The Deputy Sheriffs Ass,The Board of Realtors, Me and many other local folks who care about how we grow.
Having run for office a few times I admire those who try a great deal. However I dont think much of the Russ Thomas Campaign due to his, attack those who choose to endorce Victoria stategy. Its pretty foolish also to waste time trying to make people look bad who support somone else. Russ seems to be a one issue guy and his big issue has nothing to do with Valley Springs and Rancho.

Upcoming elections in 5th district
Everyone I am sure has pretty much made up their minds who they will vote for. I had voted for Mr. Mcdaniel because I know him to be a caring intelligent man I thought would really make some changes. So what to do now that he is no longer in contention....well here's what I have observed. I am a parent who volunteers a lot of time at my childs school, I volunteer with a couple of charity functions and I volunteer at the Snyders Pow Wow because I love rocks. My point is that what impresses me is the giving of time to help where needed. Over the last few months while we have heard positives and negatives everywhere I have noticed one main thing. Every fundraiser held, every local little event going on to raise money for anything I have run into Russ Thomas. He is picking up trash, helping serve, and generally participating actively in the function. This man lives in Copperopolis yet he drives here to get to know us and support the community. Where is Victoria Erickson? I have never seen her at any small or large events. Yes she is finally promising action and has the support of many in the Sheriffs Department. Did you know that she is related to Sheriff Downum? I wanted action years and years ago. I think it is time for a change with someone willing to shake my hand and listen to me over a BBQ and fireworks show.

I'd like to answer your question about where Victoria was. She was working as a Supervisor. Have you seen the new wider Dirver Ln. at the Jenny Lind School? That didn't happen at a fund raiser. It happened because Victoria took action. There's alot more to being a leader than lunch and tri tip.
As for our 3 term Sheriff being her uncle. If thats how she knows we need more deputies and a larger jail, to keep serious criminals out of Rancho and Valley Springs. I'm fine with that. Mabey if Russ and Dennis Downum were related Russ woulden't have insulted those who risk there lives to protect us.

The attacks on our Deputies and Sheriff
I support Victoria Erickson for Supervisor. I've known Russ a long time and I think in a normal situation he is a fine guy.
However this denial buy him, and his election letter writing staff, about the way he spoke about what deputies cant do and how the Sheriff wants a larger jail for his ego will loose him this election.
If Victoria Erickson knows more about what our deputies and jails needs are she deserves their support. I'd like to know why Russ hasen't heard about how the Prison Emergency issued by our Governor a week ago, will make Calaveras County keep felons here, instead of state prison. Leaving more drug dealers on our streets if we dont build a new jail.
Thomas Campaign seriously give these folks the respect they deserve.
