How to Comment

Comments are very welcome but we like to keep things positive. That just works best for everyone. So we have some very simple rules for comments and posts. Preferably comments are supportive in nature. However we realize that not everyone agrees with everything. Difference is what makes everyone interesting. So here’s what we would like to see. If you disagree please state it in terms of what you would like to see rather than what you don’t like. Here’s an example:

What we would rather not see: ” I hate it when so and so talks on and on at the meetings, he’s so controlling”

What we would rather see: ” I really like it when so and so allows other people to get up and voice their opinions and ideas at the meetings. It really creates a refreshing atmosphere.”

Lets call this Solution Oriented Thinking or SOT.

So our basic rule for comments is this.

1. Encouraging words are encouraged
2. State things in a what you would like to see type of language rather than a “I don’t like…”
3. If you disagree with a posting or comment please do not post a comment unless you have a possible realistic solution to the problem in your comment.
4. If you link externally please make sure that the external link follows the rules also.

Easy enough? It may take a little effort but it’s really not that hard.

Well then let’s begin.

Before you may post a comment you must be registered. This is easy and only takes a moment. At the lower right of this page you will see a register link. Click on that link and type in a username. The username can be whatever you want as long as it hasn’t been taken already. We really prefer that people use their real name as a username. Something about the anonimity of the internet tends to make people rude. we’d like to avoid that. Type in your e-mail address. Don’t worry your e-mail is safe with us.

Now check your e-mail. You should have a temporay password e-mailed to you within a few minutes. Now you can use the username and password to login with the link at the lower right of this page. Or here

Now that your logged in you may comment away.

Make a Nice Day

Terry Bailey

In response to the letter from former Supervisor Terry Bailey, I would like to correct  some misinformation for the record.  Please encourage your readers to check with the appropriate county entities.  These are the facts:1.  The Copperopolis Community Plan started on Supervisor Dick Gordon's watch in 1992.  It was suspended in 1994.  Terry Bailey allowed the plan to remain stagnant the first three years of her term until 1998 when she finally took the reigns.  Ms. Bailey had 7 full years to bring the plan to fruition and failed to do so.  Supervisor Erickson did it in 3 years with almost no cooperative effort from Russ Thomas the Chairperson.2.  The pay raise Ms. Bailey refers refers to was voted into policy by Terry Bailey during HER term as Supervisor.  Victoria Erickson has NEVER voted herself a pay raise.3. Terry Bailey approved the general plan amendment that resulted in the zoning changes for Oak Canyon Ranch.  The property went from agricultural with minimum parcel sizes of 20 acres to specific plan (Master Planned Community) resulting in the much higher density (6 per acre, 12 per acre, commercial and light industrial) that the voters and Supervisor Erickson object to.  Because Oak Canyon agreed to meet all county criteria and because Terry Bailey rezoned the property, Victoria Erickson was forced to approve the project.  I would think that Terry Bailey would be embarassed to produce a letter that could so easily backfire on her.  Check for yourself!!  Remember, just because it is in print does not mean it is true.Betsy Duncan, Copperopolis

Responding to Betsy Duncan

Ms. Duncan's "facts" about Victoria Erickson's involvement in the
Copperopolis Community plan are so grossly misrepresented that it makes me
want to scream. According to Betsy's version of the story, Victoria rode in
on her white horse, and single handedly rescued the plan from that
good-for-nothing chairman, Russ Thomas, right? Surely, she's got to be
kidding! Well, probably not.

For anyone else who might be inclined to want a closer view of the truth,
please consider the following:
Fortunately, the record is quite clear on how the committee's efforts have
been constantly hamstrung by Victoria. All one has to do is review the
approved minutes of our meetings to verify all the actual FACTS.

In the early months of her "reign" as Supervisor, Victoria gave the
committee a strong message that, upon election, our plan had become "her"
plan. With little or no assistance from Victoria, the committee limped
through a few months, and then she decided to suspend all meetings. It was
during those many months of non-activity, that most of the members of the
committee came to the conclusion that Victoria had decided to abandon the
Copperopolis Community Plan.

Finally, after months of requests to reconvene the committee, Victoria
finally agreed. Unfortunately, her methodology, which insisted on personally
approving every sentence and paragraph, continued to stall the committee's
progress. Interestingly, it was when she concluded that she was too busy to
make it to every meeting that the committee and County staff finally began
to make some good progress.

From the beginning, the committee recognized that its responsibility was to
create a document that would go to the Board of Supervisors for further
modifications and refinements. Accordingly, our committee voted to send our
draft document to the Board in October of 2005, where it has languished for
these past 7 months.

Of course, it's an election year, and since I'm the Chairman of the
Copperopolis Community Plan Advisory Committee, and since I'm also one of
Victoria's most aggressive challengers, I wonder....could that be causing
the plan to be stalled again? By the way, I enthusiastically support the
Board’s recent unanimous decision to hire an outside consultant to move the
Community Plan forward --otherwise, we might never see it again.

Anyone who might suspect that I'm too close to all this to be totally
objective, should call any (or all) of the following: Bill Albee, Dortha
Boner, Billie Britt, Jeanne Stewart, Jim Tower, Steve Wooster, Joni Jones,
Art Johnson, or Willa Hirschaut. Most their phone numbers are listed. (Mine
is 785-2020)

In my book, Terri Bailey has all the other facts pretty straight, too.
