“VALLEY SPRINGS TRAIN TIMES” CELEBRATION SET FOR APRIL 26
It’s all aboard for Valley Springs Train Times, Saturday, April 26. Centered at the revitalized Historic Valley Springs Train Depot at the intersection of Highways 12 and 26 in West Calaveras County, the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. event will feature music and other entertainment, historical presentations, an ice cream social, craft and other vendors, and many surprises. Railroad and history buffs from throughout the region are expected to join the community-wide festival. Everyone is invited to the free, public event. Created by the nonprofit Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History in conjunction with the Historic Valley Springs Train Depot and the Valley Springs Area Business Association, Valley Springs Train Times is the first-ever celebration of the area’s railroad history. The narrow gauge San Joaquin & Sierra Nevada Railroad ran from Brack’s Landing west of Lodi and reached Valley Springs on April 25, 1885. The line was soon purchased by the Southern Pacific, went standard gauge in 1904 and, while regular passenger service ended in 1932, freight was still being hauled into 1983. While no trains or tracks remain, the 123-year-old Valley Springs depot is the only original station of the SJ&SNRR still standing. The building will be rededicated at Valley Springs Train Times. Train Shows
Sal,
Yesterday Liz and I saw in the Sac Bee an article on the train convention in Sac. So sparing no time we took off to check it out. We gathered info from all the vendors there. thought it would be a big help.
There's another show coming up in Feb also.
I thought it would be a good idea to start a group on this site specifically for train times. Help organize through the group. Shall I start a new group or would you rather the info stay in the SPWCH group.
Phil
TRAIN TIMES
Great, Phil! Yes, we could use that contact info for those vendors. Do you want to e-mail it or should I come by and pick it up? As for the group, I'd rather keep things in the SPWCH group. As for organizing, we will have specific needs at specific times but we don't need lots of event help right now. What we do need right now are vendors to buy booths and the participation of the business community. I'll be going door-to-door starting Friday or early next week asking businesses to have a "Train Times Special" for that day, paint a "Train Times" theme in their window and/or be prepared to put up red-white-and-blue bunting or American flags for that day. We have lots of bunting that we can sell at slightly above cost to help them out. If anyone wants to help all they have to do is say they want to help and as things need to be done then we can call on them to see if they're available. More to come...
Pick them up
Hi Sal,
They are all brochures and business cards so if you'd like to pick them up that'd be great.
