"What'cha going to do when the well runs dry"?

Like many of the residence of northwest Calaveras County, I was attracted to the area by the peace, the quiet and by the nearby lakes. When I purchased a home in Burson, surrounded by lakes, the possibility of running out of water was not a top concern. The following drought year, all that changed. Over the years, I've learned a lot about water -- how much it costs, how to manage it, how little lies beneath us, and most important, what the future will hold if we don't address the problem immediately.

So let's talk. How do we motivate our local elected officials, now flush with our property tax dollars? Should the Burson area have a water district? Should water be piped in from surface water sources? What are the short and long term options?

Two things are certain: New homes will continue to be built and there is not enough water to supply them. So -- what are WE going to do when OUR wells run dry?
